Guitar Lesson 25

Posted by Corey
In this lesson, we are going to continue with interesting arpeggios. Only this time we are going to mix things up a bit and add other notes to create a small classical phrase. With that said, let's get started.

Musical Phrase 1:
~[A7id, A10pu, D9id, G9id, G12pu]

Since D9 and G9 are on the same fret, you can simply bar both frets with your index finger. I know that might feel like an awkward transition at first, since you started out with your index finger on A7, but being able to make quick transitions like this is often very useful. Just practice it very slowly and you will get the hang of it.

Continuing where we left off, the rest of the musical phrase is,

---
G9id, G11ru, G8id, G9mu
D9iu, D10md, D7iu, D9rd
A10pu, D7id, A9mu
---

Okay, you probably noticed that the picking near the end of this portion of the phrase got a bit crazy. And when you start playing this exercise up to speed, you will begin to recognize just how insane the picking can get. I can only stress that you practice this very slowly and use a metranome to help you gradually get faster. For homework, I would like you to practice this musical phrase, and to also practice placing your pick between two strings and playing down on the bottom string and up on the top string, alternating back and forth. Get used to how this feels, because we will use it a lot in future lessons. Feel free to experiment with fretting different notes on the two strings you choose to practice on.
